Author of the forthcoming book "Mindful Running: How Meditative Running can Improve Performance and Make You a Happier, More Fulfilled Person" (Bloomsbury Publishing, October 2017), Mackenzie L. Havey (née Lobby) is a Minneapolis-based freelance writer and photographer contributing to a wide variety of endurance sports and fitness, outdoor adventure and travel publications.

Her work has appeared in Runner’s World, Running Times, TheAtlantic.com, Women’s Running, ESPN.com, Trail Runner, SELF, Triathlete, Triathlete Europe, OutsideOnline, and Active.com among others.

Through first-hand experiences and many hours spent listening to the things people are passionate about, she works to relay stories via creative, engaging, and well-researched prose. Mind/body training pieces, first-hand travel accounts, profiles of inspirational personalities, and gear trends are all in her wheelhouse.

From the story of a woman who became a champion ultra runner after a serious brain injury, to a former corporate executive who rowed across three oceans, to a mother of six triumphing at the Beer Mile World Championships, to a cyclist who takes on -40 degree temperatures through 1,000 miles of Alaskan wilderness, she casts a wide net in the inspirational and interesting personalities she covers. Whether it's training for an Ironman, examining the latest exercise science research, going in search of outdoor adventure, or testing out the latest and greatest gear, she strives to offer authenticity in everything she writes.

Providing coverage across a wide range of platforms, she also works as a pen and lens for hire contributing to content marketing projects for a number of brands and websites in the outdoor/adventure and fitness space.

Mackenzie holds a B.A. in English and a M.A. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports and Exercise Psychology, has training in mindfulness meditation, and is a USA Track & Field-certified coach. She serves as an instructor at the University of Minnesota teaching the fundamentals of running and mental training and has completed 14 marathons and an Ironman. When she's not at her desk, she's out with her husband, baby daughter, and dog tackling the trails by foot, bike, and ski.
